The B
06-20-2005, 11:05 PM
It'll buff right out!! ;)

From the "preliminary" review of the car, the body shop thinks it's easily repairable, but I seriously doubt it. There are too many issues that could be wrong with it, namely the motor and tranny. Not to mention trying to get one tein oilcover, and one rota, and one EDM projector headlight is going to be impossible.

yepee
06-21-2005, 07:02 AM
it should fix, the bad part looks like the wheel is pushed back into the firewall, that could be a problem, just dont expect it to be the same

The B
06-21-2005, 11:40 PM
I went and looked at it today, and I'm not sure. I gave the guy a copy of my reciepts and his eyes got big. We'll have to see what the insurance guy says. The part that I'm not sure of also, is the roof is buckled slightly, so that may mean unibody damage. That, and the tow company effed up my exhaust!! bastards!

pickinicholas
06-22-2005, 08:13 AM
That looks totalled to me... There is NO WAY the insurance company can say that it isn't ESPECIALLY if the roof is even slightly buckled.

yepee
06-22-2005, 08:56 AM
once they get it on the frame machine and start to pull on it, the buckle in the roof should come out,

pickinicholas
06-22-2005, 09:27 AM
But when you bend metal (especially a uni body frame) you weaken the characteristics of the metal... from what I understand. I'm no expert on it though.

yepee
06-22-2005, 03:30 PM
the actual structure like the windshield pillar or the center pillar (between the front & rear doors) are made from HSLA (high strengh low alloy) steel, those are a concern if damaged, the roof just ties the structure together to stiffen it up, I am sure it will pull out

wgnths
06-24-2005, 06:31 PM
jeez that sucks..id rather it be totalled. i cant imagine the car ever being truly straight again. i had a totalled car that my grandfathers body shop ended up fixing, and it just wasnt the same..had electrical issues pop up and crap. bleh.

The B
06-24-2005, 07:41 PM
I have it over at Ric's body and paint in Snobsdale now. He thinks there may be some firewall damage, and if that's the case, it'll be totalled. Otherwise, who knows. But he says I'm looking at least 2-3 months out. sheet!!

Damn cheap ass rotas!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v376/duburx/Dub%20pics/DSCN0138.jpg
It looks like it honestly just sheered the side of the car off... From what the body guy said, the hit sliced my airbag wire(the black wire near the FMIC hosing with the yellow nub), which kept the airbag from going off. Good thing I didn't need it! Tjose are clean cuts if I've ever seen any.

Damn bro...I feel your pain. I just got my car back from Rics Auto Body in Scottsdale on Monday after 16k worth of damage. I was fortunate and didn't get cited for anything. But I was without for 3 months and the car still isn't quite right. Im taking it back tomorrow to hopefully get it all figured out. From what they told me uni-body cars these days are easier and better to fix (still waiting to see proof of this ;) ) Dean at Rics is a good guy though and should get it taken care of. If you need advice or help with your claim email or call me Chris 602-881-5431 I am an insurance Agent and very well versed in these matters. BTW expect your insurance to go up at least 100 a month for this too. Mine is now 350 a month for my 350Z.

Good luck, and glad your OK.

And lastly I am under 25 yrs old. The moment I am: GOOD THINGS for my insurance :)

Word... actually my car is at Ric's right now. The tell me 2 months if they fix it, which I see turning into 3 at least, since all the specialty parts I need to source. We'll see though.

I go through Farmers, and will stay since they have always done right by me, and everything has always been easy. (but we'll see, since this is my first major claim.)

LaidbackRacr
06-30-2005, 01:39 PM
Yeah Brandon I talked with Dean about your car...He said it most likely will be a total out. The motor would have to be pulled to fix he said.

imo i think that would be better..maybe not cheaper but in the end, less headaches to deal with. between the time to fix and the car being like it was before may be difficult, coming from my experience with a car that was totaled and fixed.

pickinicholas
06-30-2005, 03:01 PM
Repaired cars are NEVER the same, especially if it is THAT close to being totaled

LaidbackRacr
06-30-2005, 08:39 PM
I would normally agree, but I just finally got all the work done at RICS AUTO BODY and it drives like brand new...finally :) Of course my body damage was minimal but my suspension damage was 16k worth of damage. So far no issues with todays uni body technology they bring your car to new again.

The B
06-30-2005, 10:34 PM
shit, that would be news to me. I haven't heard anything, but I'll be going up there tomorrow to chat and see if they can push for a total. I'm just hoping I can get my salvagable parts off of it. Highly thinking about buying it back and swapping everything into a 93 AWD Impreza.

We'll see, I keep you all posted.

Anonymous
07-01-2005, 07:12 AM
That would be a cool swap. I just sold my 93 wagon because I don't have the money for a 2.5L swap right now. If the engine is salvagable, you're half way there. Good luck either way.

The B

Now they're saying they won't even get it in the shop to look at until next week. I only have so much time on my rental, people!

wgnths
07-01-2005, 04:51 PM
yeah i would bring that up, they need to understand that you cant be forever without a car..or bring it someplace else.

LaidbackRacr
07-01-2005, 04:53 PM
To give you an idea here bro...my adjuster didn't look at my car for almost 2 1/2 weeks and then body shop had it for about 2 months. Who hasn't looked at it yet? Body shop or adjuster.

I had to get a rental on my own at at 250+ a week. that got old quick I should have just bought a beater.

The B
07-01-2005, 04:57 PM
I know the proceedure, unfortunately. I was just venting. The adjuster already had his estimate done, I'm just waiting for the shop to pull it in and tear it down, and hopefully declare it a total. They told me this week, but when I called today, they said late next week.

LaidbackRacr
07-01-2005, 05:00 PM
Yep holiday weekend...Most of them wont be back until Tues and Weds. What did adjuster get for estimate

to give you some info my adjuster guessed 6200 end bill 16,000+

The B
07-01-2005, 05:02 PM
the adjuster said 7800

LaidbackRacr
07-01-2005, 05:17 PM
Yep gonna be a total then...im sure once Dean or Tony takes a look at it thouroughly it will be much more...one thing I didn't realize is how much time and effort goes into there job just to estimate price to fix they have to start pulling everything my folder was SOOO thick.

The B
07-01-2005, 07:04 PM
They didn't total yours with $16k in damage?

LaidbackRacr
07-02-2005, 10:55 AM
Nope...they probably should have but they estimated pay out on my car around 29k so I was right under the mark.

The B
07-02-2005, 12:19 PM
What is total? 65% to value or what?

LaidbackRacr
07-02-2005, 12:24 PM
Depends on insurance companies all go with parameters of 60-75 percent, i believe my company uses 65 percent scale

The B
07-02-2005, 12:27 PM
I believe they value my car at $18k, so total on 65% to value would be $11.7k. So we'll see.

LaidbackRacr
07-02-2005, 12:33 PM
I told Dean I though it would be valued at around 26-30k

At that value he thought it would be totalled so if they are only saying 18k for sure you have a total bro. Dean gets back Weds and I'm sure he'll have your car quoted by Friday and insurance will then give you the amount they are going to pay you. NOTE: YOU CAN NEGOTIATE...ALOT!!! Their job is to complete a claim asap and as cheap as possible but you can tell them with your mods how much you believe it to be worth and negotiate.

The B
07-02-2005, 01:11 PM
Thanks for the heads up.

pickinicholas
07-03-2005, 04:39 PM
So if I got in a car accident will they replace all of my mods, or am I S.O.L. because my insurance doesn't know about it right now?

LaidbackRacr
07-03-2005, 04:46 PM
Depends on the insurance company.... Most will require that you give them list of itemized upgrades and they add them on as "Endorsements" to the poicy to give you coverage. But yes you could possibly get nothing if they aren't aware of the modifications. Again this is company specific, so some will still honor your mods. You would have to check with your Agent and get it in writing if possible.

pickinicholas
07-03-2005, 04:49 PM
Do you know what Allstate does?

LaidbackRacr
07-03-2005, 04:57 PM
I know for audio equipment it has to be bolted down and part of the car or requires "HI FI" endorsement, I believe they require "state value" policies on upgraded modified vehicles but I might be wrong. You would have to check with your agent. If you find out info and need clarification or they don't know let me know and I can look into it further

The B
07-07-2005, 11:09 PM
They finally started the teardown. Somehow the wheel lock had been removed from the vehicle, so they had to wait on me to get it back. I hope to hear tomorrow that the adjuster showed and will total, but for now I'm just waiting.

How do you know more than I do on my car?? heh. They just keep saying they don't know the time frame, and they are waiting for the farmers guy. Damnit! My rental is due back tomorrow and I don't have a car!!

LaidbackRacr
07-08-2005, 01:13 PM
:( Thats the nice thing about being me, I can hear what is going with your car "unoficially" where as you have to hear about the "official" stuff. And in order for the "official" word it is up to the adjuster. Trust me though they are going to push for a total, and that should go quick because right now your car is just taking up space and that is space they could get paid for :)

I hope it draws to an end soon. BTW where you live and work? Maybe we can help with carpool?

The B

He called me this morning and gave me the news. It's a total loss.

So now I have some decisions. I HAVE to do something today, I think, due to not having a rental anymore, and I work tomorrow.

Choices:
a.) Saab 9-2x (or possibly a used WRX or a GC-body 2.5RS) and swap every part I'm able to (I hate going back to a 2.0l but I don't have the money to get an STi right now, and the Saab is damn cheap). I'll be swapping the turbo, FMIC, intake, fuel system, up-pipe and downpipe, and turbo timer. I may go ghetto and use my messed up exhaust and try to bend it out as best as possible. I'll have to buy a new flash for the 05 ECU, but may be able to sell my ECU if time permits.

b.) Buy a different car (new or used), yank my parts off and sell them to recoup some money, and start over at square one. I have no idea what car I'd get, but I've been thinking of either a Scion tC, MINI, or something for a "cruise" car(ie: not fast), or something like a used G35, 350z, IS300 or the like.

i guess it comes down to how much you want to spend on another car....used wrx's can be had pretty cheap. mox got his new wagon for $19.500, so im sure theres deals to be had on new too. minis are overpriced, even used. the tc is a very decent car for the money. if you just want a cruiser, something like that would be really nice with a few bolt ons and some killer suspension. g35's are fairly pricey too, close to used sti territory.

Yeah...I am sure there are a few junkyard dogs(like me) that would buy your old parts. I am looking for up/dp to complete my mod list for a while. I will pm ya

Choice "a" would be the most hp for the money, even used Z's are still in the mid 20's, you can get a used wrx fairly cheap and then swap what you can, still end up with a decently modded car. Or pick up the 92x on that GM deal thing.

For some reason, Farmer's doesn't allow buy-backs any longer, I guess due to liability issues. That sucks. So if I actually want it back, I'd have to get the information, as it all goes through IAA (Insurance Auto Auctions) I know where it's going, just have to find when it's going and then bid on it... bahhh. Too much work. But they are letting me yank all my parts, and swap the stock parts back on. So I'll be doing that soon.

I'm actually still looking at possible "donor" cars. Although I really hate going back to an underpowered 2.0L. ;) So I'm looking at a 2.5L turbo Baja that I can just swap all of it over to, and push 400hp out of it easily(it's the exact same motor I'm using, as it's the same as a Forester XT). Even though I've been told by SEVERAL people it's goofy or ugly, I'm still considering it. I think it would be sick dropped on some 18" Volks and big brembos.

I'll have to put some time into photochops for illustration.

I hate the Baja...

But seeing one with big brakes, wheels and 400hp would be interesting.

Baja...BAH! Z is the new blue. Why go to two litre when you can go to 3.5 Litre

moxie
07-13-2005, 08:12 AM
Why go NA, when you can go boost?

LaidbackRacr
07-13-2005, 08:18 AM
with all that displacement, Boost can be in future and can be sooo much safer

moxie
07-13-2005, 08:21 AM
Yeah, but he wouldn't have boost for now... ;)

hehe

I like the idea for the 350.
I wanted to get one myself.

pickinicholas
07-13-2005, 08:23 AM
Safer with rediculous amounts of compression?? You'd have to get that compression down to around 8:1 to be completely safe... I need to go look for new piston options for the 350z (I do want one, but want it boosted)

LaidbackRacr
07-13-2005, 08:35 AM
8.5 to 1 would be good, though my compression isn't that rediculous its 11x1 which is not as bad as other NA cars, can run about 6psi semi safe.

I want rebuild but requires, pistons and rods for sure, i think the head is pretty capable.

Yeah but now your talking turbo kit- $5k and rebuild with forged internals- who knows, you've even told me most people who boost that car blow the motor it's just a matter of time, hp:$ ratio isn't looking so good.
On the other hand the Z is a sweet car :D
Baja is a bit odd looking but with 400hp, what a sleeper that would be, I'd love to see the look on some guys face when he gets beat by that

I researched it, and I changed my mind. I'm breaking down and buying a Scion TC for a daily driver. Once I get a house and reduce some other debt, I'll be back with something turbo. I have a guy swapping all my parts to his car this weekend, and the car will be at FAT to get it taken care of. He's getting my 2.5L, turbo, FMIC, fuel system, ECU, etc. He may take the 3 wheels, and the rear Tein coilovers, but I'm not sure. I'll let you guys know if anythnig is left.

theres a nice 00 rs in the trader for $12k, and a turbod 99 for $13k.......for a daily ride, the tc will suit. its a great car for the money and it can certainly be upgraded. :)

Went and looked at the 2k RS, and it's beat up. Wouldn't get financed for the turbo'd one. I'll handle to tC for a little while, then hand it down to the woman, and get something sweet.

I saw this and wanted it bad, but I'd rather build my own, especially since he turbo'd the stock KA24:

No swaybar, suspension was mostly stock.

WTF, man? My credit union apparently no longer finances TTL. So I have to come up with $2300 to get a frickin Scion. damnit! This is BS. I just want a car!

apparently there was some "mixup" and they thought I wasn't approved for the full amount, but after kicking some heads in, I got the final approval. I pick up the tC today (friday). I'll get pics as soon as phase 1 is done, and I'll be slowly working on it from here.

congrats

the kickass thing about toyota/scion is that they have TSB's to allow for camber bolts up front. This means getting quite a bit of negative camber up front for a stock car! (ignore my autox thoughts)

Great car, I'd get one for my wife, but we need a 4door people hauler...Xb baby.

Chad over at Rockblocker had a hot lookin tc.... dark blue, limo'd windows (with a slight blue tint), blue headlights, fogged rear lights, lowered a bit, and some nice wheels. Very nice looking.

ive seen a few really great looking tc's around town too...i think you'll like the car, power maybe not right now but im sure it will still be fun to drive! i would just do a few bolt ons and spend more on suspension

The B
07-15-2005, 08:44 PM
I like it for the fact that it's clean looking and sorta cheap (although not as much after I optioned it.) and it has nominal power at this point.

I've talked to Robert at FAT about a 1-off turbo kit possibly. We'll see how the money situation goes. I orignally purchased this car to just drive it, and leave it, but now after I have it, it NEEDS more power, a better suspension, and some bigger brakes. It's unsafe in it's current setup. ;)
