f ball joint boots...i just use a pickel fork aka ball joint separator.

Grease it up really really good, and sometimes you won't split the ball joint boot. If you do split it, energy suspension makes replacement ones (but it aint easy to find the right one).

I had a box full of the bastards for my se-r. I think I only have 2 left. I went through quite a few of them in my tranny work a couple of weeks ago.

And about those bushings... Anyone know a good machine shop to do pressings...

yepee

if you have a vise and some sockets... do it yourself
I've heard if you freeze the new bushings and a little lube, they should go in pretty easy. I have not tested the freezing theory so :?: I have used the vise route and it does work, can be a pita though, maybe I should've bolted the vise down huh... oh well... next time :)

Shoot... if you want a 9and3 track car... I have a AE86 waiting to be turned into a track car... Originally planned for it to be a drifter, but can set it up for autoX... All I ask is help turning wrenches and sourcing parts.

How much work does your car need?

wgnths
05-26-2005, 09:26 PM

Needs some work to say the least... to get it running I need to get either a new gas tank or a fuel cell and run braided lines to the engine. I also need to source out fuel injector clips for a 4AG. Then the car will be running. Once running I need to find as newer GTS rear axle (the previous owner swapped it with a SR5 rear axle, so no LSD yet) once I get the GTS rear axle I can start on the suspention. The car isn't too pretty, but I wanted to primer it and keep it primered for a while (incase I kiss a wall or rail racing it) I'll also need to find 2 new front seats.

I'll try to get pictures of the car beginning of next week.

wgnths
05-27-2005, 12:12 PM
yeah primer is good and easy.....i have a summit racing seat(never used)with brackets and slider. i might be able to get my hands back on my sparco bucket i sold to a buddy cause i dont think he's gonna use it.

It's in some rough condition, but what better of a car to make into a track car... I don't have to worry about messing up the paint! Well here she is.

lol that's sweet :) but yeah, for a track car, it ain't gotta be pretty, just functional. doesn't sound like it'd need a *huge* amount of work to get it up and going, could be fun :)

That's what I was thinking! And it doesn't have a title, so I'd either have to file for an abandoned title or trailer this car all the time.

some good infoz I found:

looks like there's a *lot* that can be done to it :)

Yeah, I'm on Club4ag... That other page was interesting... and I do have a guy that can build a complete turbo system for a price... I really just want it running right now, then get comfortable with the car... THEN add a ton more power. :)

wgnths
06-02-2005, 01:14 PM
nice thing about that car for track is its super light....so gut it first, get it running and have a decent suspension and the car will be lots of fun. they dont need much power to start. lets swap my spec v motor/tranny into that beotch!

DangerViking
06-02-2005, 01:17 PM
yeah, getting it running would definately be the place to start :P
have you decided on the gas tank vs fuel cell? actually getting it into a running state shouldn't be terribly difficult labor-wise, though I know how it is trying to save up for parts :)

I can find a gas tank for about $185 (brand new) I don't know what fuel cells go for, but I know someone trying to sell one. I can pick that one up from him. Then I need a fuel pump and filter, I'll run braided lines to the engine, and the only other thing I'd need to get it to run is injector clips... the car runs if you prime it, the fuel holding system was just crap.
