The event was PACKED on Saturday and I'm glad I ran in 2/3 this event... With the new engine and tires and whatnot. 3/4 looked crazy! Well, the car did AWESOME the only problem I had was the last run session (by then the ambient temp felt like in the 90s) and my car wasn't liking the heat. The tires were getting too hot and starting to push through corners, and the temp guage got pretty hot on the last part of the run... not so good for a engine that is still needing a little breakin. I'm thinking of having Richard get me one of the Nascar Truck series radiator setup like he has in his car... but it's expensive cause they are custom made (in the realm of $1300 which is cheaper than buying another new engine). I also need coilovers pretty bad, my car with Tien H techs just isn't cutting it (body roll like a mother effer).
The new wheels and tires gave me alot of grief the day before the event to the tune of spending 3-4 hours rolling the effing fenders. And I still rubbed going around turn 9 with that little dip at the apex. On the track the NT01s were KICKASS! They gripped when they needed to, and slipped when I wanted them to for the first two sessions.
One thing that kinda freaked me out was when my BOV went off in the middle of runs it'd blow smoke out of my hood vent. I talked to richard about it and he explained what happened and told me as long as my BOV wasn't covered in oil I was ok. (in a 5 lap run in his car he fills 2 oil catch cans with all the blow by )
Everyone looked good, I could tell that Erin was pushing in the corners and Ryan was having some fun oversteering issues. I have about 502 pictures of the event that I have to go through, but as soon as I can resize them I'll post them up :) (some of them anyways)

i already mentioned this, so i'll just paste it here with my weekend run down.
It was nice nics suby back on the track, with race tires, that bastage.
I had a bad day saturday.....apparently rs2's dont do much up front when worn down to the indicator strips. so i had massive, massive understeer all day even after some adjustments. swapped tires to the rear for sunday and ended up with massive oversteer! which allowed me to spin out for the first time in decent fashion. dropped rear damping, lowered pressure and had a manageable car the rest of the day. still did a fair share of drifting corner 2 and 3 and broke loose around 90mph in the oval, which caused large amounts of anal puckerage. i need tires. and my clutch feels like it may be slipping.
Cant wait for next weekend.
p.s. i need to finish the 240.

How fast do you go around the oval?
I found myself pushing it at 90mph and it felt like the limit of what my car can do without better suspention. And that was all tire working to keep me planted.

I usually enter the oval at 80-85. I cruise for the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the oval, then feed in the gas. I prefer to take most of it at a slower speed, then I pin the throttle on the way out... I did feel the rear end want to step out on the oval a few times. I didnt like that at all.
Erin said he was getting loosey goosey at a little over 90, which sounds right.

yeah in time attack, i was over 90 in the oval and with those bad rear tires i got loose and did a little poop in my undies.

I would cover the speedo and try the oval that way. Or just don't look at it. Just go till it feels like it can't go anymore. Its alot of mental. I was doing 90 or so on sat thinking that was it. But on Sun some car was irritating me so I was going to pass him on the oval. Next thing I know I was doing over 100 in the middle of nascar 3-4 and everything was fine. I think one of my last runs I got to 105 in the middle and exited at 110 then hit speed cut (115) before the start finish.
Expept for you Erin since your tires were bald.

According to my GPS I was going about 102-103 through the oval, and was hitting exactly 120mph before braking into turn 1. My stock speedo was indicating around 110mph through the oval, and it was off the gauge (gauge goes to 120), wrapping around halfway. I couldn't go much over 95mph until I got the rear wing.

Thats a good point Jason.
I instantly look at the speedo as soon as I cross the white line before the oval. I bet I could take it faster if I just didn't look :)
And I imagine the thing is off... I'm not sure how much the tires affect it either.
I have a GPS unit I should start using.

i usually never look at the speedo. i just happen to have a good view of the needle if i look quick, because of my seat being really low and steering wheel position. i happened to look at it once during the ta when i realized i was going faster than usual. im still skeered.

I didn't look at it until I felt alot of body roll from my car then I glanced down... I know I was going ~95mph the last couple of laps that I ran. But the starfish pucker was at an all time high, I really need better suspention. The tien H techs aren't doing too bad for a set of springs that are mainly for show purposes. :)

I done a "little" bit of roundy-round, and my spec-v's speed is limited in NASCAR by it's lack of HP and dreadful understeer, but it feels like it should be comfortable at low triple digits all the way through, with the proper equipment. I can only manage mid 90's though. I think I may be muscling it a bit too much on the exit, as my line straightens out, but It don't really pick up that much speed. (<--Nix that. It's a stock sentra, it doesn't pick up much speed over 90!) Having a good pucker sensor coupled with tremendous testicular fortitude is usually the quickest way around ANY NASCAR banking. And once you pile a '73 Buick Riviera into a 1/4 mile oval's retaining wall at over 60 MPH, you gain a bunch of the afforementioned fortitude, and it helps to calibrate the pucker-sensor, as well.

The track wheels are 18x8.5 or 9... Can't remember which. They have a 245/35/18 tire on them... I think when I need new ones I'm going to get 255/30/18... if I can find them and they fit. :P
