I went by this shop today. It is really nice and they carry only top notch products. I bought a couple of shirts and I will deff be going back for more. This place is a one stop shop for most products and it's a really good place to go when you are bored and want to pick up a couple things.
4 stars!!

So what kind of deals does he give us? Do we have any "official" discounts?

moxie
07-05-2005, 10:29 AM
Nothing really official except the Shining Monkey kit.
Which is a screaming deal.

Just go in and pick some stuff out.
The business is just starting so if you tell him you are from 9and3 you will get whatever he can spare ya :)

LaidbackRacr
07-05-2005, 10:33 AM
Cool...I was curious because I saw on his site that he gives SCCA members a set percentage.

I will have to hit him up though...Gotta have Sparco Gear :)

moxie
07-05-2005, 11:48 AM
He may have given us some specific number at some point, but I just give the man my money. :)

I can't not buy something when I go in that store.

DangerViking
07-05-2005, 11:52 AM
Unless he's closed all weekend! lol
went down on sunday to pick up some shining monkey goodness, now that Erin's shown me the magic of the claybar. Soooo disappointed he wasn't around :( Will try to hit it up over the weekend though. Hope you had a good 4th Marion, and you deserve some time off once in a while :)

on t shirts i believe its around 10% off...the shining monkey deal is awesome though! i dont really care that i get a discount at all, since he's a new biz and i want his shop to stick around...i hung out and watched the latest Options vid today after work :D and of course had to pick up a new D1 gp shirt.

LaidbackRacr
07-06-2005, 07:07 AM
I'm with you on that, i want him to stick around too. But giving us a mere 15 percent off rewards us for going and still gives him ALOT of profit. I'm monitarilly motivated like that :)

Bphilly
07-06-2005, 07:29 AM
ALOT of profit???? 15% is probably the entire profit margin on most products. I would say that Marion is being more than generous. I almost don't support him giving such a discount, not becuase I don't like it, because I want him to make it. If that means me paying a few bucks more for parts and stuff, then so be it.

LaidbackRacr
07-06-2005, 07:40 AM
My apologies then, I worked for various clothing companies and we never had below a 50 percent markup and generally 100 percent. So 15 off the that is still a "whole lot" of profit. And at the prices for shirts at Surge I assumed that this markup also aplied. No worries I will throw much of my paycheck his way this weekend either way.

moxie
07-06-2005, 07:51 AM
Yeah, I had always assumed that the markup was way high on the clothing too. I had a talk with Marion when I first started going there and he informed me that he wished he could get the markup that some other stores can charge.

I think the prices are still kind of high for him on some of the items because it is a relatively fresh, low volume market. So he isn't getting the volume discounts a major store would on a branded TShirt.

I mean, how often do you see someone wearing a SPARCO/APex'i/Alpinestars article of clothing, let alone a store who sells them.

I will probably throw him some money too.. i can't help it...

...I tell myself "That's the last shift knob I need to buy. Whatever else happens I have the shift knob thing covered."

Bphilly
07-06-2005, 08:10 AM
ALways cover your knob@!!

wgnths
07-06-2005, 10:20 AM
yeah markups are usually huge on clothing, but like said..these are $20 t-shirts and he's a very low volume seller at this point. his only biz is walk-ins right now, no online sales...so spreading the word will help him and us at the same time. :)

pickinicholas
07-06-2005, 10:25 AM
Werd! I need to get a surge sticker and tshirt... Marion, can you get 3xl Surge shirts? I'd buy 2 or 3.

LaidbackRacr
07-06-2005, 10:27 AM
I've already begun advertising for him. Started with my Local Z club sites, and moving on to friends that are car enthusiasts that don't do forums.

wgnths
07-06-2005, 10:37 AM
sweet! im pretty sure he'll throw you a free surge shirt for being a 9and3 member  he just had a new design made up thats kick ass. nick, if you go in or pm and tell him what size, he'll order you a few. :) also we're gonna do some good advertising for him at the next sco in Oct! So, have your cars ready for it!!! we'll talk about those details a little later but plan on having your cars in the show, doesnt need to look like a show car.

LaidbackRacr
07-06-2005, 10:40 AM
But mine will :) All show...less go

wgnths
07-06-2005, 01:00 PM
well in all fairness, the z has good go to begin with  thats your goal, have the car looking hot by october :D i'll have a few more "showy" items on the wagon by then and hopefully i'll be able to bring the 240 out by then too. we should have a nice looking lineup by the time sco comes. oh and we'll have biz cards and t shirts by then too so we can advertise the club.

LaidbackRacr
07-06-2005, 01:06 PM
I am always up for advertising for the club, I am going to try and merge some of the Z folks over to our meets as well. Gotta even out the Subaru balance here :)
