So, I'm getting ready to put the Supra in the shop for a Compound charged kit and engine work... it will be down for what I'm estimating at 5-6 months. So, since my WRX is a track only car, I need something to get around town in, and I still want to have fun with it too. I was looking on Craigslist.com in the PHX area and found the new vehicle. It's pretty rough right now, but once I'm done with it, it won't be too bad. Here are some preliminary pics. I'll post more once I have it in my posession. I'll be picking it up on Friday or Saturday. Right now the transfercase is bad, so the tranny isn't in it and I need to tow it home. Anywho... here it be... the BEAST:

There is definitely a list of things I need to do to it, so here is the beginning of the list:

-Find a used tranny at the junk yard
-Take to Maaco to get painted flat black
-While at junk yard find some carpet for it
-Install new sterio
-Tint windows 5% all the way around
-Lift it about 3-4 inches

That should be it right now... they just serviced a bunch of stuff right before the transfercase gave out.

i think i would have looked for something a little more reliable and ready to drive? those old troopers were not the best of vehicles. good luck though! and don't let robert talk you into compound charging it!!!!!:P

Nah, they are plenty reliable... Robert owns one and another buddy of mine has one too, and they LOVE the trucks... and this one is going to stay a NA V6 unless I want to drop a Chevy 350 in there ;)

BTW... I only have $750 into it and will cost about $150-200 to get a new full tranny for it ;) So, a running for under a grand... not too bad.

The listing:
1990 Isuzu Trooper LS, 2.8L V6, 5 speed Manual, 4x4 (power windows, power door locks, rear window defroster and more).

Bought to fix up & am no longer in position to do so. Recently repaired/replaced: wiper blades, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, oil change, oil filter change, fuel filter change, air filter change, pcv valve, EGR valve, oxygen sensor, radiator thermostat/gasket.

Receipts for work done in last 2 years: oil changes, transmission service, differential service, power steering pump, TBI, radiator, fuel lines, crankcase vent, carb injectors, exhaust converter, belts, brake pads, brake booster, two calipers, four new tires.

Cosmetic: the carpet is not original. The front seats show wear. The back seats have replaced arm rests. A couple of cracks in the dash, overall it needs a cleaning, and other misc tidbits. The hood & front passenger's quarter panel are replacements (different color), etc. Paint shines up very well, with new coat of wax.

Mechanical, the engine runs very smoothly and it shifts like a dream; however, the transfer case has some problems (it went out on us a few weeks ago). We have removed the transmission/transfer case which is one complete unit so that it could be repaired.

This really does have a lot of life left in it, just takes someone who's interested in repairing the transfer case, reinstalling it and getting it back on the road. Like I said, it runs really well otherwise. Can show anyone that wishes to look at it that the engine runs just fine.

The vehicle comes with a couple of boxes of spare parts (guages, door handles, rear windshield wiper fluid bag, several other misc items, a/c parts, several manuals, an extra tranmission/transfer case unit & driveline).

I am willing to negotiate on several points. 1. Price for whole car, 2. Price for car parts. May even accept payments for car while you work on it, for right party/deal.

Over $1,200.00 invested...need to get $900 out of it but will entertain any reasonable offer.

Ok, but at least a small recording studio in the back so you can play back your latest hits.

I won't, I'm like a grandpa driving around town anyways... and it will give me an excuse to piss people off by going slow. If you see a sportscar going slow you get irritated, but when you see a trooper going slow, your like, "It's a trooper, what do you really expect?"

pickinicholas

So, on monday I brought it home, and I forgot to tell you all the nice "extras" I got with the trooper... There are 2 totally custom things about the trooper.

1) I have some totally custom cut carpet in there... it is house carpet, and it is sheet metal screwed into the floorboards. So that will be coming out for new molded carpeting in the black variety.

2) It came with the sweetest seat covers EVER!!! They are tiger print, and they are worn to the threads... and the seats under the covers are pretty rough. I'm thinking some good junk yard seats, or if I can find cheap ones, I'll get an offroading seat. Or I'll just get new covers... which seems like the smart thing to do right now.

I know you are all jealous... but what can I say? I'm a Baller!

I was thinking about the Corbeau seats later on... until then I'm thinking new covers. And about the shag carpet... no thanks. :)

I'm thinking either Black or Graphite :)

So, I went to the Junk Yard this weekend with Robert... Found a dead trooper and stripped it of it's tranny... So now Robert and I have the pieces to make our troopers working again. :) I think I'm going to end up keeping the Trooper for a little bit... The total junk yard bill was $124 which Robert and I are splitting. So in essence the trooper will be on the road with about $70 in repairs... That is just awesometastic.

And I have a new Idea for the use of the trooper... Nick's official date car. This way the girls I take on the first couple of dates won't know about the Supra or WRX, instead all they will see is a busted ass Trooper, and I can weed out the Gold Diggers... I thought it was a good idea.

Quick, sell it while it's on the road! You'll be able to make decent money on it while it's working and it'll be easeir to sell. Then give me the difference as a incentive to go to the track ;)

Well, I just ordered the carpet kit for it, and as soon as the tranny is in I'll drive it for a little while and then sell it for more than double what I have into it.

This weekend I went on an excursion to the Junk Yard... and came out with a couple plastic pieces I needed... Then I got cleaned up and went to Checker... I walked out of checker with a K&N filter, oil filter, spark plugs, brake pads, and a clutch. I will need to either find some decent seat covers or have the seats cleaned. Or possibly (and only if I keep the truck) get some corbeaus for it.

The tranny/transfercase is done and waiting to be installed. Hopefully sometime this week I can start driving it. (I also sold all the seats in my Supra... so, I need the trooper so I can pull them out)

wgnths
09-05-2006, 11:03 AM
why did you sell the seats in the supra????

pickinicholas
09-05-2006, 12:12 PM
Cause I am getting money for them... and I want a set of Corbeaus in the Supra.

And they are getting worn out.
