After 10 years of service and 112,000 miles it might be time to retire the Nissan and pick out a newER Daily Driver. Hrmmmm....Please discuss.

I will kick you thrice in the ding ding, if you get another s2k!!!!!!
Rx8 - personally, i would hate for a dd due to it's zero tq. but they are nice to drive, otherwise.
Celica - WTF!? hell no.
350z - my fav option so far.
Mini - a mini and miata!? no no no no no.
the rx8 and z would also make fun hpde cars.
*I love you, no matter what you drive. xoxo.

22k+ for an 01 S2k? Seems kinda nuts. You could get a low mileage 03 for that much.
Only 2 I would consider are the S2k and the 350z. For about 22k you could get a low mileage 04/05 base 350.

and since you're never going to mod the miata...............i say you need a car with power. z ftw.

Ill put in my 1 cent.... I'm with Erin here.... the others are just not going to do it.... I'm not a HUGE fan of the Z, but of that selection, the Z seems like it would fit the most.
I miss my S2000 :( I'd probably limit my choices to an 02 or 03, because I wouldn't stand for the plastic rear window! Then I'd have to absorbe a kick in the nutz.
I'm just hesitant to buy a used (newer) Nissan. Maybe a new Civic Si or Scion TC? hehe...(don't kick me in the balls again for that!)

Ok, if you're heading in that direction, then by all means get another s2k! I loved your s2k, just sad you got rid of it. but do you need two, two seat verts??
tc is blah
new si, i thought i liked until seeing it in person. far too square, boxy shaped. used evo or sti???
Who doesn't need two 2 seater verts? lol
If I end up with another S2K, it won't be a track/autox car. It will have some bitchin wheels and anything else I want on it :)

I think this is more Kev (not completely joking):

RX-8 or Evo would be my suggestions. Wonder where you could find a nice Evo for sale?
BTW, RX-8's go for <$20k all the time on RX8club.com...they're a great used car buy.

I dig the vette. Im always a little worried about mileage on gm cars though. figure at 68k, in a year or two your getting close to the 100k mark. Although with kev, he'd probably only keep it a year, so it's back to being a good idea.
lol
the vette has too many miles!
s2k + work rims + kick in the nuts ftw?

What makes you think you'll want to keep an S2k the second time? Yes, you will get a kick in the nuts if that's what you're asking.
Also, is there some secret fund that pays everytime "ftw" is used on this board? :P

I'm not sure what will make a different S2000 anymore fun than your last S2000.. and that's probably the worst daily driver I can think of too. No room, uncomfortable, loud, rides like shit.
Leave a long day of work with one of those throbbing headaches and you'll shoot yourself for having to drive home in an S2000. Get something comfortable with a nice stereo - Vette, Z, newer Sentra SE-R, white '05 EVO RS, Acura TL, E36 M3, G35 etc.

I loved that car. I just didn't want the payment at the time, and I wanted something different for autox. I took 2 road trips in the car. The one to Arroyo Seco, which sucked because it was longer than 4 hours and a boring drive. The other was a road trip to vegas, which was one of the best road trips I've ever had. Around town, it was more than comfortable and dead solid reliable.
With that said, I doubt I'll end up with another :( It might be a while (or not) until I get something else. I'm just "thinking out loud" because the forum is too dead ;)

Ok, the wife is pipin in.
The only reason that a Mini is on the list was because Kev really wants me to give autoX'in another shot. I'd autoX a mini.
I never autoX'ed the S2000 because of fear/respect (call it what you will) for those cars, and I get mad motion sickness and would probably projectile vomit if I spun. :) But I LOVED that car - to me it was comfortable as hell and what you lose with the road noise you more than make up with the "fun factor". Plus, now there's the added bonus of watching Erin try to kick Kev in the "ding-ding". ;)
Never drove or riden in an RX-8... but have a Z and it was pretty cool.
...I don't think a Vette would fit in our garage...
Brian, drove the Evo and YEAH it was fun... :) 'specially after driving the 100hp Toaster... :D But it didn't completely knock my socks off. I'm a little butthurt about the lack of "fluff" (power windows, cruise, etc.) - and it's kinda like... why have one if you're not going to take advantage of it? But that's just my opinion.
Besides it's been what, almost 6 months since Kev has gotten a "new" car? WAY overdue.

oh, well kev should have said that! if it means getting you to bang some cones then a mini will do!
Damn, I fear another threat to kick me in the nuts coming :P

(RE: Kev's wife)
DRIVE an RX-8.. Good schtuff!
Mini also good..
Son of a biznitch. Tonight I realized I corded my front tires at the last track day! I've only been driving on them for almost a month, and there are only a "few" steel belts showing. I think I had only about 5,000 miles on those bastards :(
Looks like it's time for new tires...ugh.

MINIs are fun cars, and far more practical than most people think, at least for two people. When you start trying to stuff kids in them, it takes a little bit more work. Still, lots of fun to drive, good ready-to-track car and good on gas. The only problem I have with a MINI in Phoenix is that your only local service option is North Scottsdale, and I know of two people that have had significant problems with their service department. Plus, depending on where you live, it's a hike to get up there.
I'd take a look at the newer S2K's. I bought my 05 for ~27 w/ 10K miles on it and the CPO warranty. And they gave me 14.5 for my 02 WRX w/ 80K miles and a host of problems. S2Ks don't seem to sell very well down here, and you can usually get a dealer to move - the car I bought was sitting on the Tempe Honda used lot for over 2 months.
As to drivability, I'd driven both an 02 and my 05 on the freeway for long distances, and it's amazing how much quieter/more refined the 05 is. They also fixed some of the niggling problems in the 04/05s, like bumpsteer and snap-oversteer. They kept the steering feel, though, and that was the deciding factor betwen the S and a 350Z.
I would stay away from the RX8. My bosse's son has one and it gets crap mileage, consumes oil like crazy and is torqueless (this coming from a Honda driver!). If you want to save some money, they can be had for cheap, but I've also seen 02-03 S2Ks in the 17-18K range.

As much as I would LOVE another S2K - I would not autoX it. A couple times I *ahem* pushed it getting on freeways or going around corners I could feel it gettin a little squirrley on me. Not that I have to autoX... or I could always cut off my legs at the shins so I could fit in the Corky Romano mobile... or not. ;)
I know people who have had nothing but nasty ish to say about the N Scottsdale BMW dealership (which Kev and I drive by every day M - F to work). Or people that think that it's absolutely fine to pay $1500 to get new brake pads for their '99 M3 ("uh... you sure that's just break pads?")
We'd probably try to look into maintaining it ourselves, or taking road trips to Vegas/LA or wherever when service was needed. :D
Z's are still appealing to me. When I see one drive by with really nice rims... it looks quite saucy. But it'd have to be metallic paint - I could not deal with another Nissan flat paint nightmare - their paint jobs suck giant hairy bunghole (...and now I'll tell you how I really feel ;) ).
But this is still a long ways off. But it's so nice wasting time at work looking at autotrader.com and drooling...
Sold the coilovers off the se-r, so now it's back to stock 4x4 ride height! Got a major itch for a new (to me) car!

You could get a used WRX or possibly a '04 STI for that kind of money. just my .02
I'm not really "looking." I'm more bored than anything!
I'd probably take an evo over an STi, but both those cars have the potential for $$$ maintenance. I want a T-rex

Yeah, and for that kind of money, you're pretty much only going to get an 03 Evo with quite a few miles... the ones that are known for front diff problems.
