9and3 Challenge - Event Rules and Regulations
Overview
The 9and3 Challenge consists of three dynamic, timed events at Firebird Raceway over the course of three days. Points are assigned based on finishing positions after each event and the driver with the most points at the end of the weekend will be the winner.
Events & Meetings
It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure their vehicles meet tech and safety requirements for all events! Ie. Battery cutoff switches, firesuits, helmets and so on.
Drag Race – The drag race portion will be held at Firebird Raceway via the Friday Night Drags program. Your single fastest time is what will be counted. Driver is responsible for keeping the timeslip. (firebirdraceway.com/06web/streetdrags.html)
Time Trial – The time trial portion will be held at Firebird Raceway’s West course. The sanctioning body is NASA (nasaproracing.com). Your single fastest lap is what counts.
Autocross – The autocross will be held at Firebird Raceway’s skidpad and is sanctioned by the Arizona region of the SCCA (azsolo.com). Your single fastest lap from the competition portion is what counts – dirty (with penalties) or clean. Time Only runs will not count. All drivers are required to work!! Not doing so will result in disqualification from the entire 9and3 Challenge!!
Meetings - There will be three main meetings: 1. The event kickoff on Friday afternoon, 2. The Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show on Saturday night, 3. The awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. You are required to attend all three!
Vehicle
1. You must drive the same vehicle throughout the duration of the event. Special exceptions can be made in the case of mechanical failures etc. You may not have one vehicle for the drag race, another for the autocross and so on.
2. Any tires are permitted, for any event. Ie. You may run drag tires for the drag race, autocross tires for the autocross.
3. All vehicles must be driven to the event. You may not tow your vehicle into the event facility (Firebird Raceway or Pavilions) on a trailer.
4. Vehicle must be a car (no trucks/vans/SUV). No karts, 4wheelers, sand rails etc.
5. Driver must remain the same through all events.
6. All vehicles must display event decals throughout the duration of the event! Decals will be provided at the kickoff meeting on Friday afternoon.
Scoring
Events will be scored on a points system, with the fastest overall time getting 1000 points at each venue. Each position after that will get points assigned based their percentage of the top time. Ex: 1st place with a 90sec time gets 1000 points. 2nd place with a 94 second time gets 957 points (90sec/94sec=957points). Results will show overall elapsed time and points. Point totals are what determine standings and finishing positions.
