Ouch :(

Did the collision knock open the lexus gas cap? The lexus doesn't look to have suffered much damage in that pic.

Good luck.

yea, i think the force of teh impact popped it open :P

and no, the Lexus didn't seem to take hardly any dammage. and we were wondering if the marks were actually paint from my car.

oh ouch!! That sucks!! Ya the WRX looks pretty beat up compared to the lexus

That sucks... yours looks like a straight replacement (ie no structural work needed) except maybe the headlight support. If so, it will be a little pricey but won't be too bad.

Unfortunately whether or not it's your paint you're gonna have to buy him a new bumper cover and have it painted. Luckily there looks like no other damage to that thing.

Crappy way to start the weekend.

i imagine your hood/fender being aluminum made things look worse. those fenders dent if you look at them sideways. at least the lexus isn't bad, as your insurance will have to fix it. subarugeniuneparts has the cheapest prices on body replacements/headlights, usually.

kev

You guys have aluminum hoods? When you meet with the insurance adjuster, make sure you demand an aluminum hood replacement (or that they fix your). You don't want to end up with a steel hood!

The body shop actually repaired my miata's hood and it came out pretty well.

Max Power

Yup, aluminum... but I dunno about fixing that one - it's buckled pretty good in a couple places. It would be tough to fix without seriously compromising the strength of the metal.

Time for CF fenders, doors, hood and tell them that before the wreck it was a 6 speed manual and you don't know what happened ;)

That sux man! Time to replace w/ sedan fenders and a CF hood and a nice JDM bumper of some sort!

Ruiner77
08-04-2007, 04:50 PM
no, the hood wont be fixed... if they even tried to, id be pissed.

Now, if i were to take those suggestions and go for non-standard parts, how would i go about doing that with my insurance? they are taking it to their place to run an estimate on Monday, and then off to the shop on Tuesday.

I dig the idea of going with CF, but i liked the stock look since it didn't draw much attention, but still... i dig the idea and would explore it. Theres no way i can drive it right now, so its not like i can replace the parts myself. Since this is the first accident I've had, I'm just looking for suggestions and info on this sort of thing.

A lot of it has to do with the body shop. They will write up a repair estimate using standard parts. Then insurance cuts them a check. Instead of ordering the factory parts, they get the aftermarket stuff instead (any extra you will have to pay... but more than likely it will be less expensive than OEM). So you need to find a shop willing to do that.

If you are interested in CF, remember that a CF hood will not weigh less than the factory hood (in some cases it's a pound or two more). You will be doing it for looks only.

Ruiner77
08-04-2007, 05:48 PM
yea, ive never been concerned about weight in my wagon. I know its a beast as far as weight goes. The reason to go CF would not only been looks, but cost as well if the oem hood is more expensive. So now im just not sure if i should call and ask the insurance company about these options, or if i should just wait until its at their shop....

Max Power
08-04-2007, 11:38 PM
It might be cheaper when you factor in the cost of paint, but an OEM hood should be roughly the same price.

I wouldn't ask the insurance about it because then your claim value is going to go down (in case it is cheaper) and you'll be stuck with all your deductible again. Plus the insurance probably won't be too interested in doing that. Just talk to the body shop or take it to a different shop that will do that. Only benefit to it being cheaper would be if insurance pays the higher amount and you'll have to pay the bodyshop less out of your pocket. Otherwise who cares how much it costs :)

Oh, and make sure to find out a good shop around there from forums or something. There's nothing worse than a crappy repair (and there are lots of people in that field who shouldn't be).

oem aluminum hood - $344 + paint. so about the same as a good cf hood. oem is lighter and cf can be a pain to take care of.

Justin at Scottsdale Auto Body just repaired my wifes Legacy and did it for almost half the cost as other body shops and did a great job. He can be reached at 816-807-3979 and is a member of NASIOC and goes by dblurx4. Some of his work is posted on NABISCO and everyone has been very happy w/ his work including Aaron B who just had a full repaint on his GC Wagon. You know the one w/ that cool grey color? Anyway, I'm sure if you had any special requests for fixing your rex he could work with your insurance company and get you exactly what your looking for. I sometimes wish my front end would get bashed in so I could do a Liberal body kit LOL!!

I have the full 5 page list of stuff, and will scan it soon. im going over to the shop after work today to get some stuff out of the car, and to ask them about whether or not i have any options on what parts are chosen at this point. i want a new grill damnit :P

Damn, but I wouldn't be suprised if it ended up costing more.

My miata's initial estimate was for around 3500-3800 in damage. As they dug in, they found a few more things and the total ran between 4200-4500. The collision was slow enought to not set off airbags, heh.

and here is the full estimate.... if you guys would be so kind as to look it over, id be a happier man. I only understand part of it. I asked about choosing parts from other manufacturers and they said they use OEM if at all possible, and if it is, then thats what they use no matter what. And for the most part, all the replacements are going to be new OEM, which is perfectly fine by me.

discuss... :P

Max Power
08-07-2007, 03:43 PM
Couple things...

They are charging you $470 for the hood and 5 hours! of labor to install and paint it. That seems a bit high.

They are putting in a non-oem radiator - I would push for aftermarket or OEM here.

They are putting in a non-oem AC condensor - push for oem here.

I'm not 100% sure but the rest seems factory (grill, bumper cover, etc...). Here's where you can push to getting aftermarket parts. Just say, rather than order from the dealership, order from online then show them the parts.

Also, didn't one of the headlights shatter? I didn't see the price for a new headlight.

The ABS Actuator sure is expensive! So is reapplying the 3M rockgard... 700 for just the hood, bumper and part of 1 fender?

What type of paint do they use (brand)? Also, when you went to the shop what other cars were there and what condition were the cars leaving there like? I tend to push for places that do high end repair (Lexus, BMW, MB, etc...) and use European paint lines. PPG is decent too.

Max Power
08-07-2007, 03:57 PM
Oh and I'm not 100% sure, but are they also removing the other fender? If so, I'd get some fender braces and have them installed since the fenders are already off.

I would also leave the intake snorkel out... either do an intake of some sort (I'm not sure what the flavor of the month is now, cobb?) or the snorkel delete hose (I remember GP moto made one, somebody else probably does now). Hmmm, can't really think of much else that can be done. You *might* be able to get them to buy the snorkel delete hose since they have charge for intake duct... but that could be the intake scoop.

Ruiner77
08-07-2007, 04:01 PM
Ill start with the rock guard....

yea.. wayyy over priced. but keep in mind that this list was made up by my INSURANCE company, NOT the shop doing the work. So im willing to bet that if they could have found a place to do it cheaper, they would have. But i do plan on pointing it out to them that it cost me $450 for the entire front end, scoop, and mirrors.

The headlight is on there... and its $374...and now im going to have to go back and clear that ONE headlight since i had both of them cleared.

As for the non OEM stuff, im going to call the insurance company about that. I asked today at the shop and the guy seemed a bit clueless. he was only an office guy, and not a tech. Their shop did look very very nice though, and the cars i saw were very clean and there wasnt parts scattered all over and crap like that.

I have no clue about the paint manufacturer. ill note that and give em a call tomorrow as well.

The ABS actuator is crazy mad expensive.... dont ever damage yours. :P

As far as how much the hood is costing... dont know what to tell ya. Thats their rate and what not.

Ruiner77
08-07-2007, 04:03 PM
Hmmm how much would the braces run though? we have 0 cash to spend right now... no matter how much i agree with it.

the snorkel isnt a bad idea, but im iffy on it. and last i heard it made the turbo more audible (But i don't see how it would).. lol neighbors can hear it already LOL.

wgnths
08-08-2007, 12:43 PM
i would certainly push for all oem, if their gonna overcharge for everything else.

Max Power
08-08-2007, 01:40 PM
Snorkel delete will make it a bit more audible - mostly inside the car. You'll get to hear the bypass valve more too. There's no such thing as too much turbo noise.

I don't know what the fender braces cost. I know the Nagisa ones are pretty expensive but there are other ones (like the ones fueled made) that should be more reasonable. I wonder if RPM is making some now. I don't know much about Subaru's anymore.

Ruiner77
08-09-2007, 04:30 AM
Im going to have to hold off on the braces due to lack of any way of paying for them. And im going to skip the snorkel because i get enough shit from the woman with the amount of noise it makes already. :P

i dont want something that sounds like the stock setup, but still.... sheesh. I have literaly set off alarms in our parking garage. and on top of that, i can hear my engine running (after i use the remote start) from a full 2 stories up while standing at the elevator. And my wife can hear it while laying in bed in the morning when i leave for work. So yea...

Max Power
08-10-2007, 01:35 PM
Weak sauce excuses. I set off alarms in parking garages when I drive by the garage - not in but by. Oh and my stock Sti set them off too in the garage too so that's not a coolness qualifier. The snorkel won't make it that much louder.

Ruiner77
08-10-2007, 01:44 PM
i know the snorkel wont do that much, but im just saying, its one more noise that keeps my boy awake while in the car :P is that a good excuse? probably not... :P

but either way, im still looking to sell the HKS CFTi cat back and get something a little less audible without toooooo much of a power loss.

Max Power
08-10-2007, 02:05 PM
Oh, I thought you had the sti axleback still. The snorkel will be drowned out by the catback. So no excuse

crzyjulius

Long time no post..... haven't visited here in months, and thought id pop in.

Figured id start in this thread, since i effed up again....sortof.

We've been having some nice snow up here this year, and it has been fun. i'm running on my 92's since i have no cash to drop on snow tires, and the other night i ended up taking a corner with a tad too much throttle and ended up loosing grip and slowly gliding into a nice 6" curb with my front wheels turned to the left. Then after driving away from that, and towards our apt. i slid down the hill by our place and jumped annother curb, slid over the grass, over the sidewalk, and onto more grass, stopping just short of a tree. The first curb was my fault... i gave it too much gas. But the second one, i was going less than 5mph since they dont seem to plow around us, and it just lost all grip when i slowly turned the wheel to turn... i had no chance at that point. I lined up the wheels with the curb, and BAM. The next day i went to drive and the steering was all over the place. The steering wheel was off by about 45degrees, and the thing would pull left and then right on and off quite hard.

Took it to the shop, and ended up with a HORRIBLY misaligned front right wheel, and a bent lower control arm on the same wheel. The shop aligned it for me as best they could, and ordered the new arm. I'm still waiting on the parts though... blah.

We're finally working out our financial issues here, and hopefully i can start revamping the suspension this spring after the snow melts. I doubt however that ill be able to participate in autoX though. I need a new set of summer tires, and a new set of snow tires as well this year. I finally have annother set of wheels though (bought some stock '02 wheels for $200...in great condition). Hopefully this year will treat the car a little better and have some more fun.
