Dear Erin,
You're a dirty car/truck whore.

congrats on the new truck. I really like my Armada (wannabe Titan). Towed the evo and featherlite trailer to spring mountain raceway/NV with no problem. now lets to ASR!

i thought about the armada, but it's a big sob and dirt bikes dont fit in it.

yeah, few issues when i picked it up... first thing i noticed was the non-tow mirrors. however, all the 08's come with tranny cooler, heavy duty rad, and alternator. so the hitch was added. i don't get the tranny temp gauge or mirrors...and according to nissan, the big tow comes with different gears. so, i'm kinda pissed.

also, it supposedly had the utility bed(tucson dealer mistake). instead, it had the bed extender.

at least it came with tinted windows that i didnt pay for, and they are having the bed liner sprayed in and the tracks installed. and letting me keep the extender for free.

i was seriously thinking today, of returning it tomorrow for one with the big tow, though lots of people seem to tow with the non-factory pkg with no issues.

and the rockford system actually sounds pretty darn good. lots 'o bass and satellite.

Yeah, big tow has better gears. But since you don't have the trac package, you could always install a real limited slip (Trutrac) in the rear and upgrade to the better gears when you do that. With the BT gears, it's going to cost about 1k-1200 installed. I haven't been on Titan forums much lately but if you're considering going to 35's or so, there might be some aftermarket gears that would help a little more than the factory options - otherwise you'll be stuck with the BT gears (better than the standard, but still a little tall).

Adding BT mirrors isn't too big a deal (easy to do and i really like the wideangle at the bottom). It might be worth looking into being able to hook up the BT tranny temp gauge - I'm sure the sender location is still there, then it's just a matter of seeing if the wiring is there and whatnot. I do believe that they only make one instrument cluster assembly, just that the non BT one has a bezel that covers the tranny temp section. Then you'd have to hook up the needle but it might all be there. You could get lucky with that. If it's easy, I'd do it - if not I wouldn't worry about it. I know that the fog lights are prewired so you can always put those in.

It's cool that they're getting you the utili-trac stuff. I think there were a couple reinforcements in the bed and you don't get the cubby hole storage thing, but neither of those are big deals. Oh, and if you're planning on getting some sort of roll up toneau cover, I believe there's on out there that works with the rails BUT you have to flip them left to right (I guess it lowers the height of the rails on the sides so that the cover can slide above them) so it might be worth mounting it that way to start with. If not, it doesn't matter. I always want to buy one of those covers but the damn thing is almost a grand.

You'll be able to tow fine without the big tow - it's just a few little things that add up to something pretty pricey if you're trying to piece it together yourself afterwards. But the frame and pretty much all of the engine and accessories are the same so it'll tow just fine.

yeah, i'm just going to deal with it as is. my only concern is towing with a lift/35's. and i definitely need fog lights.

Are you going to put a mean exhaust on it? V8's sound so effin mean. I used to have a Dakota RT with a 5.9. Had a custom Flowmaster exhaust setup...I miss that deep low sound :)

wgnths
02-25-2008, 09:33 AM
yes, lift/35's, exhaust..probably something cheap. gibson, banks. my tundra sounded awesome with the bassani duals.

waiting for cobb to release their titan stuff, too.

Dude, towing with the 2.9 final drive sucks. The 3.3 final drive with the towing package makes all the difference in the world.

And what's the deal with them spraying in the bed liner? Spray in bedliner is an option available from the assembly plant.

wgnths
02-25-2008, 10:55 AM
bah! hmmm, maybe i should take it back for a real tow pkg. does the tow mode actually do anything?

on the bedliner, i thought it had the utility bed which has the liner already but it didnt. it has a bare bed, so they have a company that does spray-in's just like the factory.

phoenixZ33
02-25-2008, 11:17 AM
the tow mode doesn't really do anything. the big advantages to the tow package are the 3.3 final drive and the A/T cooler. you'll get 2-3mpg more with the 3.3 final drive and it'll actually accelerate

ok, so good news...after doing some research on titan forums, i found others with the same truck and questions.

turns out, i do have the tranny temp gauge(just realized it) and i have the tow pkg gears. the door decal shows "33" for the 3.3 gears, not "29". apparently for at 08 or 08.5 they changed things up? or mine was ordered with this stuff, but not the big tow?

so, i have the gauge, gears, a/t cooler and bigger battery...only thing missing is the mirrors. sweet!

wgnths
02-26-2008, 12:48 PM
brady or jason, can you verify that all 08+ come with 3.33 gears now? people are so confused on the titan forums lol, with these changes.

Max Power
02-26-2008, 11:31 PM
I was going to say drive next to me and we can see if our rpm's match up but that won't work with my tires.

I can run that gear chart I made for Brady for the Titan gears and see how that comes out but like Brady mentioned, who knows how the errors are in the speedo.

wgnths
02-27-2008, 08:59 AM
well, i have my speed/red light camera detector in the truck which also shows speed via gps.

I would cruise at 2500 rpm in 4th gear and check your speed. There should be enough of a spread there that it should be obvious (hopefully). Or go 65 mph and check the rpm's in 3rd, 4th and 5th (you can try 2nd if you're ballsy).

wgnths
02-27-2008, 06:57 PM
now people are saying the "33" axle code on the door does not indicate tow gears lol. someone with that code w/o tow pkg checked the axle, and it indicates the 2.xx gears...according to nissans site for 08.5, all se/le get the gauge, cooler, but you need the big tow or or pkg to get the gears.

so, i think i got shafted. i took a quick gander in 4th @ 45mph and was just under 1500 rpms.

and i found someone with the same color truck, lift and wheel combo i was thinking of dammit! still might do it since it's not in az.

Those Toyo MT's are my next tire. The quietest MT's out there. It looks really good - how come all people with the same lift as me look taller? I really like those step tubes - i will probably get those eventually.

Time for a true-trac and some gears :)

wgnths
02-28-2008, 08:36 AM
it looks about the same as yours, maybe higher in front. that truck is running the pro-comp stg1 kit w/saws cranked up.

i'm pretty much set on doing the cst 4" spindles w/donahoe coilovers/rear shocks from sdhq.

Max Power
02-28-2008, 10:08 AM
Make sure that the Donahue rears are for lifted trucks - I think only SAW and Bilstein make longer rear shocks - the Donahues were for stock height in the back when I was looking.

What are you doing for the rear? Don't forget the CST carrier bearing drop down bracket.

wgnths
02-28-2008, 10:37 AM
hmm, yeah maybe the donahoes aren't for lifted. it only states they give 1" extra travel.

wgnths
02-28-2008, 06:17 PM
ordered dunders grill. top/bottom/fogs and tow hook holes. might not use the bottom one. was thinking of mounting a few lights down there.

same as this, but it's black.

tomorrow, going over to sdhq(super duty headquarters) and ordering the rest of the lift: cst 4" spindle kit, drop down carrier

Nice - tell Greg to set the Radflos as high as comfortable. It's annoying to adjust them when they're on the truck. Oh, did you decide what you're doing in the rear? I have a 4" block but you might want to go 3" - I went a bit bigger cause I was planning on towing so I didn't want the rear to be super low when the trailer was hooked up (course I haven't towed yet, but, well, whatever... :)).

wgnths
02-28-2008, 07:05 PM
i shall, and i'll let sdhq deal with setup. i have zero interest in messing with coilovers again!!!!

Max Power
02-28-2008, 08:30 PM
Lol, not much to setup with these - just crank em up as high as Greg's comfortable with and put them in. If you were just doing those it'd be no problem - but that spindle was a bitch to put in. We could probably do it if you want - I'm guessing SDHQ will charge about 400-500 in labor to do what you need. Only thing I recommend is to have a jack that'll go high enough :)

Another wheel I was thinking about was the Driv Blitz...
http://www.mhtwheels.com/images/categories/blackblitz.jpg

But I really wanted the Teflon Thug after I saw it - it came out like the week after I bought mine.

wgnths

yeah i keep eyeing the teflon thugs. they're almost the exact color of my truck.

here's a pic, finally. taken with my crappy cell phone even. thanks to joe and goodspeed for installing my lift and wheels/tires.

lift is radflo coilovers, cst 4" spindles, deaver mini-pack leafs, bilstein rear shocks. 18x9 pro-comps, 35x12.50 pro-comp x-terrains. rides better than stock.

i have wobbly wheels. i thinks discount needs to do a re-balance.

p.s. i get more looks from chicks in the truck, than i do in the fit...wierd huh?

This gas station also has the high octane gas 110, last time I was there. So if anybody wants to try it they can, it is a little more money tho.
