View Full Version : I Bought A Miata?? '08 MX-5 Inside

No really, I did. Picked up a black on black touring last night. Apparently the only one left in the state. I was originally going to go with a base solstice and take advantage of the gm employee pricing, but i test drove it and hated it. Didnt want to spend the extra $4k over the miata to try the turbo solstice.
I must say it's a very fun car to drive out of the box. the 6spd is very nice. it needs a better sound system and more tire. no pics right now.

Awesome!
Erin, I can give you all sorts of suggestions, but it'll depend on what your plans are for the car. Tell me what you want to do with it and you'll get the good shit.
BTW, knowing you, I figured you'd probably want to see this:

Still waiting some customer dynos, but it's supposed to bump power about 80whp over stock. That's a lot for a Mazda/Miata. ;)

I drove it last night, and instantly gained a taste for Yanni.
Seriously though, I can see why people like them so much.
I will consider it my mission to convince Erin he needs that kit...

it was a toss up. 2 year lease on the miata or 20 year lease on the viper.
yes you can borrow it. no man-love on the seats though.

i have no plans for making it competitive in any form. just a fun car to drive, that i could take to autox or maybe fir east or west. i only did a 2 yr lease on it, so no cutting, no fender rolling, no s/c's lol.
i want to eliminate body roll, but keep it as civil as possible to drive on the street. so i imagine some springs, sway and wheels/tires. seems a 235/40/17 fits fine and i was thinking the direzza sport star specs. wheels i dont know. and exhaust/intake. something not too loud. i read the nc's have droning issues with some exhausts.

yes it was lol. thats why i did a 2 yr on this, so i can get out of it and on to something else. and yes, this is why im selling the bugeye. i just decided that having 2 modified wrx's is too much, and since i have the titan i don't really need a 4 door sedan. plus im sick of girls lately, so the miata fits perfectly.

If it's mostly for street, I'd get the MS-R bits (Koni yellows with custom springs and bars). Note that the rates aren't crazy high, so the ride should still be great for the street. Parts (except shocks) need to be purchased through Mazdaspeed Motorsports, but you can typically place orders prior to having race results if you tell them it's being built. Worst case, I can order them for you. Total suspension package should run about $1400, but you can probably do slightly better by buying the shocks somewhere else, as I'm pretty sure they're just standard off-the-shelf Koni yellows (edit: can save about $200 getting shocks elsewhere).

Ghey indeed. Or I could just be a hater cause I'm too tall to fit in one and wouldn't have a place for the baby seat.

The natural progression of modding. $300 springs becomes $1400 springs/shocks/bars which will become $3k coilovers

yeah it is small. im also annoyed with the driver height adjustable seat. it doesn't go low enough, even for me. i can't imagine who would raise it higher and be able to see out the windows.

i was reading about the ms-r package in GRM. seems like the best combo, though i really don't want to spend that much right now.

Were you in the car with Erin, when this gay event occured?
Erin, didn't the salesperson tell you that the only time two dudes are allowed to sit in a miata together is if they both have snell approved helmets?
If you don't have helmets, you may as well be giving a dude a ride on the back of a bike :P

I like to keep my options open... somebody with a gayer car may be interested. Although I don't see how that's very possible.

some updates on ownership: im finding the car pretty darn fun to drive. it has good power, even in higher gears. it's very quiet for a small 'vert. Has good steering feel, a little heavy initially but very nice. good road manners for a short wheelbase, not choppy, well controlled. excellent brakes!
i commend mazda for giving it an exhaust note...except the note sucks. needs a manly exhaust. needs lowering and sways, though the handling is pretty good in the twisties. needs more tire.
it has an annoying squeek/rattle behind the head unit that must get fixed.
the center cup holders are totally useless for cups, as they interfere with shifting.
i think mazda played a joke with the 6spd and actually threw in a 5spd with two 5th gears. 6th is very short and the car winds out on the freeway. though it makes for nice passing power.

ordered wheels... 17x8 rotas. yeah, too heavy for a miata but i couldn't wait any longer and $650 is more budget friendly. i wanted the new black rpf1's, but $300 more i can't do right now.

You'll need to bring it out for some autocrossing and take my car for a spin. A little motivation can go a long way. ;)
