I think we can all use one...Good mod to have (so I hear) but what are the actual advantages of this?

Cooler oil is less likely to breakdown and lose viscosity.
Also, since the oil also functions to cool many of the moving parts in the motor you can see a nice overall temperature drop and a reduction in detonation.
It's a good idea for us here in the desert, but also for us here in the desert who drive our cars like we own them...

i saw a great decal the other day......instead of "drive it like you stole it", it was "drive it like its a rental"

If I did that it wouldn't last more than a few k miles.
BTW I saw the funniest thing on one of my Z forums felt like it applies here.
A guy on the board rented a Cavalier, and then cut the springs on it and beat the hell out of it (on camera) Brings the rental back in slammmed and they didn't even notice :)

Richard from Dyno Comp is installing that kit on my STi on Thursday along with a 6.5" SPAL fan behind it. Hopefully that helps with my blazing hot oil temps.

07-18-2005, 06:47 PM
oh sweet, well let us know how it works out...i may do it sooner than i thought! and welcome
Will that bump the oil capacity up by a qt or so? That would be nice.
AZ2004STi
07-18-2005, 08:22 PM
According to Rich, it should bump up the oil capacity by about a quart. So yes that will be good, as it will take more time and energy to heat up a greater capacity. They are also deleting the oil heater feature. I think thats to blame as the hot oil inturn just heats up the coolant.
And thank you for the welcome!

If anyone would like to host pics I can send them your way??? The oil cooler kit goes in on Thursday so I will try and get to Dyno Comp and snap some pics of that kit while the bumper is off. You should still be able to see it good with the bumper on, you just have to pull the driver side fog cover.

Yes it is the black APS core. I like the stealth look it gives! And yes NO ONE lights a match in the wife and I's garage. That barrell you guys see is the wife's c-16 for her stang, and the one behind it is my Sunoco GT Plus 109 unleaded.

Well since I'm not a computer wiz on uploading pics. Here is the results from AZ Quickest Street Car Challenge. She took 2nd place in the top category of Ultimate Street.
http://realstreetcars.com/Jan05race/results.htm
That was on DOT tires and only 10#'s of boost! Her best ET to date is a 10.2 and her best trap is 138mph.
Now she is going for mid to high 8's with a GT4294R turbo! No more Paxton S/C trying to keep belts on. The passenger seat is going bye bye and a air to water intercooler is taking its place. Should be done and ready to rock come this fall!

excellent! let us know how the temps look.
AZ2004STi
07-22-2005, 06:22 PM
Definitely a worthy mod!!!! The oil temps run stock like, as long as I'm not running my a/c. I think the combination needs better radiator fans now to finish off the setup right. Though once I turn the a/c off the temps come down alot quicker, both oil and coolant, once they have become hot. Where as before they wouldnt come down at all hardly. So I give the mod a definite thumbs up, though it is costly!!!

where is it mounted? i think we're(surge i should say) gonna piece together a nice setup to mount behind the passenger fog light.
AZ2004STi
07-22-2005, 09:44 PM
Its mounted behind the driver's side fog. Then it has air dams to direct the flow of air to the core.
