Ok guys I want to learn to drag the correct way, with my MR2 I could drop at 5k and not a hooking up, not the same with low torque NA car.
This is how I currently Drive (not working)
Dropping clutch at 4kish
I hold gas down to metal as I pop clutch between gears (thinking bad for clutch)
Any tips are greatly appreciated

Let me drive and I'll learn ya ;)
Since I've never driven a Z, this is my best guess. Launch at the RPM just shy of wheelspin. The tires will make a screeching sound (different than peeling out... it almost sounds like the tire carcass is trying to separate itself from the rest of the tire). By not letting up on the gas, you're powershifting. Bad for tranny/clutch/rear end but good for times. If your tranny is strong enough, it don't get no faster than this (unless you shift without using the clutch too... don't recommend that one).
Heel and Toeing is for downshifting entering a turn. Despite what fast and furious says, you NEVER downshift while drag racing and the car will never be faster when you upshift :)

You gotta double clutch and stop granny shifting!
The Z has high torque, which makes launching it hard without a ton of wheel spin. What model is yours? Does it have VDC? Or TCS? Either way, turn that god forsaken TCS off if you want to get a true feel for the car. You are looking at low RPM launches if you want any good 1/4th times. I would guess around 3000...
And powershifting is ok....if you are looking for your best 1/4th time...otherwise you're just hurting the car, unless you can do it smoothly.
Heel Toe: Push clutch in with left foot, brake with right toe (ball of foot), blip throttle to "rev match" with heel of right foot and release cluch. Basically it creates a smooth shift through a turn so you don't 180 :)

for the best 60' at launch, hold rpms up and slip the clutch.....as in hold clutch half way down so its gripping, give the car more gas and instead of just popping the clutch(causing all that tire spin), you want to ride the clutch out and drop the hammer. i would only hold the gas to the floor when shifting, at the track. otherwise its stress the tranny really doesnt need. and the best tip: practice! you should try launching a wrx!! :x

Thanks for all the info, i knew heel toe was used to launch
I've heard slipping clutch is worst thing though...

Slipping the clutch is only bad if you burn it.
With your car, you can probably slip without having any kind of problems at all.

Nor is the Z really, more an auto X.
But I like to drag, i can shift quick but my launching is terrible

Hmmm I bet the Z is easier to launch than the Rex. I just do want to churn out a 17sec run and light up my clutch.
It would suck to have all those people laughing at me being beaten by a cavalier. Then some guy goes and tells all his friends that his car is faster than a WRX.

practice before you go out there.
And dont try to stage on the wrong side of the wall

I'd rather replace a clutch than a tranny...
Slip the clutch and go for it... in a Z you can have a higher rpm launch than us in the AWD cars (we would break drivetrain stuffs). I had a 300zx (NA) and would race the shit out of that, alot of the time if I "popped the clutch" at the track it would chirp and start dogging because of the sticky compound they put down. If you slip the clutch it isn't as much of a shock load on the tranny and rear diff as trying to drop the clutch at the track. You CAN race the car and still be nice to it.

im more of a drag racer than autox....i must have made a good 100 passes in my spec v, and raced my se-r and nova before that. havent taken the wrx out yet, needs to cool down. and its a very difficult car to launch. clutch slipping is something you may not want to practice on the z...i did lots of it in the spec and never had issues and ran a best of 14.2@99.

Anytime... Thursday nights out at speedworld there are races, and some at Firebird, but I don't know if those are consistant days that they are open. I want to track my car REALLY bad.

nah z drivetrain is stout.....the spec v drivetrain is pretty similair strength wise believe it or not. and i was at the track every week, clutch slipping and power shifting. never had a problem. and racing in a straight line takes more skill than many think.

I have harder time with Drag than Auto X or Drifting , Like I said I can shift very well its just the launch that kills me i had 4 sec 60 ft

Try just rolling off the line with traction, then punching it. 4k is way to high for the amount of torque your Z is producing. I'd say try and stay anywhere from 2600-3200RPM. You only want a quick spin coming off the line, and remember not to WOT it till you have traction. If you do it too soon you will consistantly run your 4 sec 60fts and be buying a new set of rear tires very soon. Also drive around the soap box, especially if your on street tires. No need to warm them up, all they will do is get slick on you.

do people heel-toe at the drag strip? i don't even know. must be hard with cowboy boots, though.
"heel-toe" is typically used in the context of a technique to match rev's when downshifting, like during braking before turn entry, on a real course or race track
i don't know a damned thing about drags, though. when in rome.
