I know I looked into this before, and the only thing that was REALLY expensive is getting insurance for the day, If we got enough people to come and charged say $30 a person this could be a feasable option, that way we can have a track day that we can use to get our name out with, SURGES name out with and alot of practice racing. The track I looked at a while ago was Firebird... that is one that USUALLY the most central location. They have multiple road courses and would be a great place to beat our cars up at... Is anyone interested in this little venture?

that's NASCAR-style $$
certainly, we'll be renting ASR in Deming, New Mexico once or twice a year. turns out we don't need to "rent" it in August, since they're having an "event" on the 20th anyways.

I've heard that firebirds tracks are okay too, but if I remember correctly there's a lot more walls to hit on one of the Firebird courses. We should definitely be careful, especially if there are people that haven't run a road course before. It's easier than you think to spin right into a wall.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's extremely unlikely to pull off a track rental at PIR or FIR as a small individual group. Renting the skidpad is not cheap. Renting the actual road coarse is going to be a lot more. They will also require fire and ambulances services to be on site. Guess who pays for that? Good luck trying to find insurance.
I really don't think it would be worth the effort, because as the organizer you'll be way too busy to get on the track.
If you really want seat time on one of our great local tracks, hit up a NASA HPDE I.
The other great option is Arroyo Seco, which is the track in Demming, New Mexico that Marion is pimping.

I just thought that it would be fun to host on of these races... if for nothing else to get some "sponsors" names out, like SURGE and DYNOCOMP (if we can get them) Maby SCO might be interested in helping us... I don't know, I just want our club to be recognized as a club that actually races and hosts races.

I think Kev is right. There is a lot of safety precautions that need attention and money. I think our best bet is to just promote and participate in NASA events. Last event there were quite a few vendors our there, so I'm sure Surge would be able to post a little tent out there or something. But I think it would take way too much effort to rent the track. With SCO Nights we rent the entire track but we pay, mucho, mucho dollars for it. Barely make any money at all off of those events. But it takes a good one to two months with a full staff to get the event setup and all that type stuff. Was a good thought though.
We should just keep showing our faces at all the local events and maybe even in some neighboring cities. That will get us known with a lot less effort.

there is definitely opportunity to become a sponsor at our events. the next one is in October and should be even better than this past one. i can put you in touch with the right person if you are serious. i'm assuming you're talking about Surge, right?
