Hey guys -

I hope this is the correct place to ask. I saw a sticker for this site on a car at the last autocross (I was there watching) so I thought I'd give it a try.

I have been looking into autocrossing for a few months now and thanks to a new schedule at work, just got out to watch one. I am thinking about doing next month's even (in Casa Grande?). What do I need for my car to make it ready? It's all stock, is that ok? I noticed a lot of stock looking cars out there.

What else do I need to know? I've been to the Autocross website.. azsolo2.com I think, and ready about everything on there. I've been reading the forum but it seems pretty serious, so I'd rather ask here since it appears more relaxed.

Sorry for all the questions, I really want to do this!

Well, What kinda car do you drive? Autocross is about having fun and driving, I haven't ever done it... but I know that it helps to walk the course a few time to get familiar with it. To set up the car we really need to know what kind of car it is.

Just make sure your car is in decent condition. Thinks to check are:
1) battery is secured
2) no nitrous tanks permitted on site
3) your tires are in decent shape
4) you should air up your tires to 35-40psi

Sign up for the forums on azsolo2.com. Between that site and this site, you will know when pre-registration for the next event is open. Sign up and make sure to arrive at the event by 6am. Try and sign up for C or D group, and then I will be able to ride with you.

If you make it that far, then just hunt me down, and I can help you from there. The silver S2000 with the surge stickers and black wheels is my car.

Cool! Thanks for all the replies! It sounds like everyone there is helpful, so I'm not worried about it!

I have a silver 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring model. I have seen a couple of them before at the events, so I'm guessing it's an ok car for autocross?

I don't know, it doesn't seem that fast on the street. I was thinking about selling it for something that might be a little faster, or at least fun to drive. Is that a good idea?

As soon as registration opens, I'm signing up! Is it ok if I ask more dumb questions? Thanks!

As a novice autoxer, i think its easy to have fun in any car. You're car will do fine. I regularly get my ass handed to me by a red 350Z, but he's just a better driver than me. I don't mind as it gives me somethign to shoot for.

Keep your car...or at least don't buy a new car for autox. Run what you brung.

keep the z. what other cars are you thinking that would be faster/more fun? i think learning how the car really drives when pushed at the track will keep you happy in the z. then again i buy a new car every year.

Yeah, I saw that red one our there ripping up all the S2000s a couple weeks ago, as a Z owner myself I thought it was really cool! I mean none of those Hondas were even close!

You guys are right, it's probably better to get used to driving in any car.. then worry about the car itself once my skill is improved.

Man, I just can't get over how much faster that Z was.... oh well.

Down boy! :P It's not all about the car (normally). The S2000 stock for stock will whoop up on the 350Z in autox. CAC is not a typical autox environment and is biased for powerful torquey cars.

Brady is faster than most of us S2000 drivers. He has jumped in an an S2000 during fun runs at PIR and beat his own times he put down in his car with just 1 run in an S2000.

Morals of the story:
1) it aint the car, its the driver. A friend of mine is co-driving my car, and at a real autox car (ie not at CAC) he has never been beaten by Brady and his Z in my car ;)
2) F'ing Brady is faster than me....for now

And he's got like 40 tires, no joke, in storage. That is definitely cool!

when I first started I thought I was pushing the car to its limits.... WRONG!
after I was shone what my car could do, I picked up 10 seconds... keep the car and fix the nut behind the wheel! :D I am still working on it.... havent succeeded yet, but working on it

Yeah... I still remember when scott took me for a ride in his SE-R

That was a long time ago...Scott has gone through like 10 cars since then!

He's like the 1st coming of Erin when it comes to car swapping heh.

The funny thing is that 3 of us have owned former Scott cars!

I bought the neon acr from someone who bought it from Scott.
Eric and Erin bought the Omni GLH...too bad "we" sold it :(

Well I don't know, watching the 350Z beat all those S2000s and Subarus was pretty cool! I'm still convinced it's faster, and pumped up about it needless to say. Some of those Hondas could barely launch on the start it seems, due to lack of power, kinda depressing.

If any of you can ride along it would be greatly appreciated! If you have any more tips, I'd love ot hear them!

actually, launching hard at the start is a waste and generally not a good idea.....especially when you launch rocks up at the car behind you :x the start beam isnt for a few feet after, just for that reason. and kev's s2000 has set fastest time of the day at many of the events, beating that z often. like kev said, thats not a typical course for autox. you'll have a blast out there!
