Ok... after seeing Erin's Volk wheels it got my gears turning again. Im thinking about wheels again. I was going to keep stock wheels and get new rubber, but now im thiking both. Heck even my wife agrees. Im looking at the Rota Grid's, but im just not sure about cost. Its about $500 or so from subydude, plus the tires i want for $400. SO thats basicly a grand right there. I have no clue when im going to have that kind of cash all at once. Other than weight, what changes with new wheels (looks aside)? Is it purely cosmetic? How decent are the stock rims? My dode has aftermarket rims on it cus i hit a set of potholes in chicago doing about 75mph and destroyed 3 of the stock wheels. I have since hit many potholes with the newer rims and they dont even dent. Is the durability of the Rota rims that much greater than the stock suby rims?

Seccondly, the size. I know the 17's look damn nice, but since the Grid's come in 16's as well.... its entirely possible to get the new tires first... put em on the factory wheels, and then get the Rota's later on.... correct? Or am i missing something here?

Rotas should be as good if not a little better quality as the stock wheels, the big advantage of aftermarket wheels is appearance, but they also allow you to run a wider tire. If you are into racing alot, go for the 16" but if you don't race that much, I'd personally go for the 17" wheels for the cosmetic aspect of buying wheels. One thing you COULD do is "act" like you had just bought the tires, and put that cash away and then hurry and save for the wheels... Your RE-92s looked in good shape (for REs) so You DO have some time.

stick with a 17. rotas are lightweight and a bargain. the car will handle much better with wider wheels/tires. what tires are you lookin at?

Im not looking to race really... but want decent all season traction. We will be moving back to the midwest in a year or two, so i dont want to be all over the road in rain and snow. :P
